Carew & Company Bangladesh Limited is located at Darshana of Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga district. It is the largest sugar factory in Bangladesh. And also known as Asia's largest sugar mills. In 1938, the current company started its journey with the combination of sugar factories, Distillery units and a drug factory under private entrepreneurs. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, the government declared it as a state-owned organization. Along with the production of sugar, the company is now producing Foreign liquor and organic fertilizers.

It is known that there was a liquor factory of Englishman Mr. John Maxwell, who started in 1805 at Jagmu in Kanpur, India. In 1847, the factory was formed as a joint stock company with its branch in Roja of northern India and named as Carew and Co. Ltd. In 1938, another branch was established in Darshana of the Nadia district of India (currently in Chuadanga district of Bangladesh). During the Pakistan period, in 1968, the name of this organization was changed to Carew and Co. (Pakistan) Ltd. Lastly, after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, the government of Bangladesh named it Carew and Company Bangladesh Limited.

Currently the main product of Carew & Company Bangladesh Limited is Sugar. Its land area is about 3 thousand 57 acres. In it, about 2,450 acres of agricultural land. Sugarcane is cultivated in these agricultural fields. Sugar is produced from this sugarcane.

Along with the production of sugar, this company produces 9 brands of foreign liquors including Whiskey, Vodka. These are being produced in the Distillery Unit, which is located inside the organization. These foreign liquors are being sold inside and outside the country. Apart from the foreign liquors, the company is producing Bangla liquors in this Distillery unit segment. Apart from these, the production of vinegar, spirits from the bye product of sugar are produced. The company has started production of organic fertilizer called Carews Organic Fertilizer since 2014.

You can go to Darshana Bus Stand from Chuadanga City by Bus or Auto-Ricksha. After that, you can go to see the Carew and Co. Sugar Mill by walking or rickshaw. Also, You can come to Darshana railway station directly from Dhaka or Khulna by train. This is a state-owned organization. So if you want to visit this organization, you will have to get permission from the organization authorities first.
